Staff Bios

Instructors at the Limestone Symposium are well-known artists from across the United States. Their credentials include scores of years carving both public and private works. Many are faculty members at colleges and universities, and look forward to continuing their teaching each June at the symposium.

Director

Amy Brier    Bloomington, Indiana
Co-founder of the Symposium; BFA Boston University, MFA Indiana University; stone carver from 1987-1993 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York City; workshop instructor in the US and Germany. Her work is exhibited internationally. She was an invited participant in the 40th International Sculpture Symposium, Krastal, Austria in 2007 and the Limestone Duet in Bloomington in 2008. She is a Board Member of the Stone Carvers Guild.

George Bauer    Savannah, Georgia
Bauer is Professor of Sculpture at Savannah College of Art and Design. B.F.A., Academy of Art College; M.A., M.F.A., West Texas State University; Ph.D., Texas Tech University.

Tim de Christopher    Turner’s Falls, Massachusetts
Tim de Christopher is a sculptor, designer, and architect. His work is deeply rooted in the tradition of architectural stonework and sculpture. He trained at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, the Cooper Union School of Art, and through independent study in Italy. De Christopher perfected his technical skills at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City (1990–92). His works appear in public spaces and private collections across the United States.

Ned Cunningham    Ellettsville, Indiana
Ned Cunningham is Head Carver at the Bybee Stone Company. He is skilled in portrait, figure, relief, and ornate architectural carving. He has a BA from Indiana University.

Dale Enochs    Bloomington, IN
Enochs’ numerous large scale public works can be seen throughout Indiana including the Indiana Governor’s Residence and the new Indianapolis International Airport. His public work can also be found abroad in Hangzhou, China and Osaka Prefecture in Japan. Enochs’ work is in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Canada. Most recently he installed a large scale public sculpture for the City of Bloomington’s B-Line Trail project. BFA, MFA, Indiana University.

Sharon Fullingim Socorro, New Mexico

Janey Westin    Minneapolis, MN
Janey Westin has been creating letterforms since 1980, and carving them in all kinds of stone, in all sizes (up to 24″ high) since 1985. She also sculpts in relief as well as full 3D. She’s executed commissions for schools and universities, religious institutions, corporate and private clients; some of which are the University of St. Thomas, Target Corporation, St. Olaf College, and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She works with her lettering-man husband, Charlie Hughes, out of their studio/shop, ‘Paper & Stone’ in the Minneapolis area.
