Amy Brier

Amy has a BFA in sculpture from Boston U, and thought she didn’t like stone carving until going to Italy after graduation and falling in love with marble and carving. She then worked 6 years in the carving shed of the stoneyard of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. There the work was all in Indiana limestone, and it became her favorite stone. She came to Bloomington for an MFA in sculpture at IU, and co-founded the Symposium in the last year of grad school. She has taught workshops and classes in the US and Europe. Amy is currently the Chair of the Fine Art Program at Ivy Tech Community College, and the first woman to be President of the Stone Carvers Guild.
